C’è una foto che racconta meglio di tante parole quello che sta succedendo.

Io sono tornata da Marrakech l’8 Luglio 2026 e non ritornerò nella Medina prima di Ottobre. Ma il progetto Una Zampa alla Volta non si è fermato nemmeno per un giorno.

Anzi, è proprio adesso che entra nella sua fase più concreta.

Da qualche settimana il nostro SiMo “il Gattaro” è presente quasi ogni giorno nella Medina. Non è semplicemente una persona che porta cibo ai gatti: osserva, controlla, cura, monitora. Segna i nuovi arrivi, segue i piccoli colpiti da coryza e tigna, interviene quando c’è un’emergenza e, giorno dopo giorno, sta diventando un punto di riferimento per gli abitanti del quartiere e per i tanti turisti che ci cercano perché preoccupati per le condizioni dei gatti.

Quella che vedete nella foto è la nostra piccola “base”. Un cartello, una ciotola, qualche gattino e tanta presenza. È da qui che stiamo costruendo qualcosa che, fino a pochi mesi fa, sembrava soltanto un sogno.

Per ora il nostro lavoro si concentra nella via Riad Zitoun Lakdim, tra Place Jemaa el Fna e Place des Ferblantiers. Qui stiamo censendo le colonie feline, raccogliendo dati, monitorando lo stato di salute degli animali e creando un protocollo di intervento serio e documentato.

Quando avremo raccolto informazioni sufficienti, le presenteremo all’amministrazione con un obiettivo molto chiaro: estendere questo modello ad altre zone della Medina.

Non vogliamo limitarci a salvare qualche gatto. Vogliamo dimostrare che un modo diverso di prendersi cura degli animali di Marrakech è possibile.

Ma tutto questo ha un costo.

Ogni visita veterinaria, ogni cura per la coryza, ogni trattamento contro la tigna, ogni sacco di crocchette, ogni spostamento di SiMo esiste solo perché qualcuno, dall’altra parte del mare, decide di crederci insieme a noi.

È per questo che oggi vi chiedo una cosa semplice: continuate a camminare accanto a noi.

Perché volere è potere solo quando il desiderio di una persona diventa la forza di tante.

E io, guardando questa foto, penso che il primo passo lo abbiamo già fatto. Adesso possiamo costruire tutto il resto. 🧡🐾

One Paw at a Time Isn’t Taking a Vacation. In Fact, It’s Just Getting Started.

I returned from Marrakech on July 8th, 2026, and I won’t be back in the Medina until October. But the One Paw at a Time project hasn’t stopped for a single day.

In fact, this is exactly the moment when it is entering its most meaningful and concrete phase.

For the past few weeks, our own SiMo “the Cat Guy” has been in the Medina almost every day. He isn’t simply someone who feeds the cats: he observes, checks on them, treats them, and keeps track of what’s happening. He records new arrivals, cares for kittens suffering from cat flu (coryza) and ringworm, responds whenever there’s an emergency, and, day by day, is becoming a trusted point of reference for local residents and for the many tourists who approach us because they are concerned about the cats’ health and living conditions.

What you see in this photo is our little “base.” A sign, a food bowl, a few kittens, and, above all, a constant presence. This is where we are building something that, until just a few months ago, seemed like nothing more than a dream.

For now, our work is focused on Riad Zitoun Lakdim Street, between Jemaa el Fna Square and Place des Ferblantiers. Here we are mapping the cat colonies, collecting data, monitoring the animals’ health, and developing a serious, well-documented intervention protocol.

Once we have gathered enough information, we will present it to the local authorities with one clear goal: to expand this model to other areas of the Medina.

We don’t just want to save a few cats. We want to prove that a different, more effective way of caring for Marrakech’s street animals is possible.

But all of this comes at a cost.

Every veterinary visit, every treatment for cat flu, every case of ringworm we cure, every bag of food, every journey SiMo makes is possible only because someone, on the other side of the sea, chooses to believe in this project alongside us.

So today I have one simple request: keep walking beside us.

Because where there’s a will, there’s a way only when one person’s determination becomes the strength of many.

And when I look at this photo, I can’t help but think that we’ve already taken the first step.

Now we can build everything that comes next. 🧡🐾
